The subject was based on a sculpture exhibited by Belgian sculptor Eugène Simonis. Beneath the image are the words “Boy with punchinello 1851 Exhibition.”\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"isSelectedEnd\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThe cream earthenware plate has a decorative molded border of wheat ears and flowing leaves. An interesting survivor from the landmark Great Exhibition held at the Crystal Palace in London, it would make a characterful addition to a collection of early transferware, exhibition souvenirs or social-history ceramics.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"isSelectedEnd\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThe pottery manufacturer is unknown, and the reverse is unmarked.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"isSelectedEnd\"\u003e\u003cstrong\u003e\u003cspan\u003eCondition\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003cspan\u003eAntique condition with a prominent hairline crack running from the upper rim into the central well. There is also overall glaze crazing, age-related staining, surface wear and minor imperfections around the rim. The crack is clearly shown in the photographs.
