This is a lovely piece of London dairy history.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003ePails of this type were used for storing, carrying and pouring milk or cream, often by dairies delivering to local households. Smaller lidded examples like this may have been used for cream, household milk supply, or measured dairy delivery. The fitted lid helped protect the contents, while the brass handle and pouring spout made it practical for carrying and controlled pouring.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe pail has a dark japanned or tinned metal body, brass swing handle, brass pouring spout and hinged oval lid.
