Antique Hudson's Soap Enamel Advertising Clock Sign c.1900

An original antique enamel advertising sign for Hudson's Soap, dating to the late Victorian or Edwardian period, circa 1900.

Made by the Patent Enamel Company of Birmingham, this wonderfully decorative shop sign features a distinctive arched top with the words 'WE CLOSE AT' above a clock face with blue Roman numerals and adjustable metal hands. Below the clock, the words 'TO-DAY' are flanked by two yellow pointing hands, while the lower section advertises Hudson's Soap in bold lettering against a dark blue background.

The vibrant combination of deep red, teal green, yellow and blue is complemented by decorative foliage, creating a striking example of early British advertising. Originally intended for shopkeepers to indicate their closing time, the clock hands could be moved manually to display the appropriate hour.

A particularly attractive piece of antique advertising, ideal for collectors of enamel signs, historic shop fittings and early commercial memorabilia.
