This rare antique Backhouse’s Ideal Chocolates wooden display and storage box features beautifully printed labels with vibrant peacock artwork and a scenic view of a grand house and gardens. Produced by H. Backhouse & Co. of York in the early 20th century, the box would originally have held chocolates and been used either as a shop display or for shipping.
The box is made of wood with its original paper lithographed labels, which have survived with attractive patina from age.
Dating from around 1910 to the 1920s, this box is a wonderful example of early confectionery advertising and would make an eye-catching display piece in a vintage kitchen, as part of a chocolate or sweet-themed collection, or as an authentic prop for period TV and film productions.
