Antique Wooden Hat Stretcher with Turned Handle, Early 20th Century
An original antique wooden hat stretcher, used by milliners and hatters to size and shape felt or straw hats. This example is crafted from solid wood with a smooth oval form and central turned spindle handle, which expands the stretcher when rotated.
These practical tools were widely used in the late 19th and early 20th centuries in workshops and gentleman’s outfitters to maintain hat size, stretch tight crowns, and keep headwear in shape. It carries faint size markings and numbers, with a lovely mellow patina from years of use.
A fine piece of traditional millinery equipment, ideal for display in a hat shop, tailoring studio, or as a collectible for those interested in fashion history.
