A very attractive antique ironstone margarine shop display slab or counter dish, boldly lettered “MARGARINE” in black around the outer rim. The base is marked “The International Tea Co’s Stores Ltd”, later known as International Stores, a major British grocery chain whose name disappeared when the remaining shops were rebranded Gateway in 1988.
This piece would originally have been used in a grocer’s, dairy or provision merchant’s shop to display and serve margarine at the counter. The slab has a lovely white ironstone body with strong black lettering and decorative cut-out detailing within some of the letters, giving it excellent visual appeal.
A superb piece of antique kitchenalia, grocery advertising and shop display history, ideal for a period kitchen, dairy collection, vintage shop display, interiors styling or prop use.
