A rare survivor from a butcher’s shop window, this Staffordshire pottery ram brims with rustic charm and authentic early 20th century character. Made around 1910 for use as a butcher’s display piece, it is modelled standing with curled horns and textured fleece in ochre tones, finished with a clear glaze showing fine craquelure consistent with age.
These advertising figures were popular in butcher’s windows in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and genuine examples are now scarce. This ram displays beautifully with great presence and individuality, despite the expected wear from its working life.
