Edwardian optometrist’s examination light with a fixed, rigid head, produced for ophthalmic and medical examination rather than general illumination. The light has a straight, non-adjustable right-angled head with integrated lens, designed to project a focused lateral beam during eye examinations. The nickel-plated cylindrical body features finely knurled grip bands for secure handling in a clinical environment. Supplied by J. H. Steward Ltd of the Strand, London, a prominent Edwardian retailer of optical, scientific, and medical instruments. The base is stamped by The Ultra Lens Company, Richard Beck, Made in England, Finsbury Court, London E.C.2, confirming British manufacture and professional optical origins. The fitted case shows evidence that an additional accessory or component may originally have been present and is now missing, which is not unusual for surviving examples of this type. A scarce and authentic early medical lighting instrument, suitable for collectors of ophthalmic, optometry, and scientific antiques, as well as display or prop use.
