Large Arts & Crafts Hammered Copper Tray by Townsend & Co – Acanthus 55cm

An Arts & Crafts hammered copper tray by Townsend & Co, Birmingham, clearly stamped to the reverse with the Townsend & Co trademark and the Acanthus pattern name. The tray has a deeply planished surface with a radiating hammered texture, a shaped oval form and a bold scalloped rim. The Acanthus design is one of Townsend’s recognised decorative lines and the quality of the copperwork, weight and finish place this firmly within their early 20th-century production. An impressive, decorative piece with strong presence, well suited to sideboard display, table use or interior styling.
