A lovely vintage J. & P. Coats “Bear” Extra Strong Machine Thread box, containing a group of original wooden cotton reels in rich pink, plum, blue, green, yellow, cream and darker shades. The reels have attractive red bear paper labels, with several marked “200 yds / 183 metres”, “Extra Strong” and “J & P Coats”. The original box is printed “J. & P. Coats Paisley Extra Strong Machine Thread” and “Unrivalled for Quality and Excellence of Finish”, with a bear illustration to the lid.

A very decorative haberdashery display piece, ideal for a sewing room, vintage textile collection, shop display, prop styling, period haberdashery cabinet or alongside antique sewing machines and dressmaking items.

Condition

Good vintage condition with age-related wear throughout. The wooden reels have rubbing, fading, knocks, small splits to some rims, surface marks and general signs of age. The paper labels show wear, staining, fading, creasing, small tears and losses around some centre holes. The original box has age marks, scuffs, edge wear, discolouration, surface rubbing, small dents and old storage wear. Some reels retain thread, but they are sold as decorative/collectable vintage items rather than guaranteed for use.
