An original 1908 illustrated edition of Mansfield Park by Jane Austen, published by J.M. Dent & Co., London, with twenty-four colour illustrations by C.E. Brock.
This edition forms part of Dent’s highly regarded early 20th century illustrated Austen series, celebrated for its refined Art Nouveau gilt cloth binding and decorative craftsmanship. The original pale green cloth cover features extensive gilt floral ornament and an ornate central cartouche, with matching gilt titling to the spine. These editions are especially valued for their decorative appeal as well as their literary importance.
Internally, the book is complete with colour plates by C.E. Brock, one of the most recognised illustrators of Jane Austen’s works. His illustrations capture the atmosphere and character of Austen’s novels and have become closely associated with early illustrated editions.
This example retains its period ownership bookplate, adding authentic Edwardian provenance and historical character. Despite structural wear, it remains an attractive decorative antique book suitable for display, reading, or restoration.
