An original 1905 illustrated edition of The Chimes by Charles Dickens, published by J.M. Dent & Co., London, with colour illustrations by C.E. Brock. This edition forms part of Dent’s early illustrated Dickens series, known for its distinctive Art Nouveau decorative cloth bindings and high-quality illustrated content.
The original green cloth binding features an ornate gilt and blind-stamped design with cherubs, foliage, and a central decorative title panel. The spine retains its decorative layout and titling, characteristic of Dent’s premium illustrated editions.
This copy retains its original Edwardian ownership provenance, including a decorative bookplate for Geraldine Marston and a contemporary gift inscription dated November 4th 1905. An embossed bookseller’s stamp from Gibson & Co., Chester, adds further historical authenticity.
Illustrated throughout with colour plates by C.E. Brock, one of the most respected illustrators of Dickens’ works.
