An original Whitbread’s advertising figure in the form of “Toby,” the Georgian gentleman mascot used by the brewery throughout the 20th century. Cast in metal and painted in bright colours with applied Whitbread’s Pale Ale label to the chest, the figure stands on a plinth inscribed “Good For Him & Good For You Since Seventeen Hundred & Forty Two.”
These figures were used as point-of-sale advertising in pubs and off-licences and have become highly collectible examples of brewery advertising. This example retains its original label and paint, showing clear signs of age and wear which add to its character.
