Antique German Putz Sheep Set Erzgebirge Nativity Figures c1920
A charming and highly collectible set of three antique German Putz sheep, dating to the early 20th century and associated with Erzgebirge nativity and Christmas village traditions. Each figure features a composition or papier-mâché head with hand-painted facial details, giving them individual expression and character.
The bodies are covered in textured wool to simulate fleece, with slender wooden legs and simple handmade construction typical of early Putz figures. Two sheep retain green ribbon collars, while the third features a paler blue-green collar, adding subtle variation within the group.
These figures would originally have formed part of a nativity or winter display and remain highly sought after by collectors of antique Christmas decorations and Erzgebirge figures. As a group, they create strong visual impact and work beautifully in both seasonal and year-round displays.
