Antique Small Hand-Worked Strawberry Emery

A small antique strawberry emery, closely hand worked in deep red thread with pale stitched seeds and long green thread leaves.

The upper section is finished with a twisted green thread loop, giving the miniature fruit a distinctive and appealing shape. At just 4 cm high, this is a particularly diminutive example with considerable character. When gently squeezed, the filling gives a granular crunch consistent with an emery filling. These small abrasive cushions were traditionally used to clean and sharpen sewing needles.
