Antique Victorian Clan Stuart Tartan Ware Thimble Case with Silver Thimble

A charming Victorian Scottish Tartan Ware thimble case decorated in the Clan Stuart tartan and accompanied by a silver thimble.

The cylindrical case is made from turned wood covered with the distinctive printed tartan decoration associated with Scottish Tartan Ware. The removable lid is marked “Clan Stuart” in gilt lettering and opens to reveal its original deep crimson velvet lining.

Inside the lower section is a recessed metal holder containing a decorative silver thimble. The thimble has a finely patterned lower section and is marked “SILVER N.G.Co” around the rim.

Tartan Ware was particularly popular during the second half of the 19th century, when small pieces such as sewing accessories, boxes and souvenirs were produced for the growing Scottish tourist trade.
