WW1 Beaded Heart Pin Cushion – Essex Regiment Egypt Badge – Patriotic Trench Art Souvenir
An original First World War heart-shaped beaded pin cushion, richly decorated with multi-coloured glass beads, metallic thread embroidery and patriotic ribbon trims. At the centre is a silk panel featuring the badge of the Essex Regiment with the battle honour “Egypt” beneath the Sphinx. To one side is a silk printed verse “Think of Me” and to the other a panel with allied flags including the Union Jack.
These pin cushions were often handmade by soldiers during the First World War as tokens of affection to send home, combining regimental pride with sentimental decoration. This example shows wonderful detail and vibrant colours, with the beadwork still largely intact.
A rare and evocative piece of military folk art and WW1 trench art, highly collectible among militaria enthusiasts and textile historians.
