An Arts & Crafts hammered copper tray by Townsend & Co, Birmingham, clearly stamped to the reverse with the Townsend & Co trademark and the Acanthus pattern name. The tray has a deeply planished surface with a radiating hammered texture, a shaped oval form and a bold scalloped rim. The Acanthus design is one of Townsend’s recognised decorative lines and the quality of the copperwork, weight and finish place this firmly within their early 20th-century production. An impressive, decorative piece with strong presence, well suited to sideboard display, table use or interior styling.

Condition

Good vintage condition. There is surface wear, rubbing and tonal variation consistent with age and use. The copper retains an original, untouched patina with areas of darker oxidation and lighter highlights. No splits, cracks or repairs noted. The stamping remains clear and legible.
