A charming late Victorian Austrian porcelain butter dish featuring a beautifully sculpted sardine or herring finial to the lid. Dating to around 1900, this elegant piece combines practical tableware with decorative novelty design typical of continental European ceramics of the period.
The dish has a refined ribbed moulded body with softly rounded corners, finished in white glaze with delicate gilt edging. The realistic fish handle is hand-painted in naturalistic tones of black, grey and blush pink, creating a striking coastal and culinary motif.
Originally intended for serving butter, pâté or soft cheeses at the table, this piece now makes a wonderful addition to antique kitchenalia collections, coastal interiors or Victorian dining displays.

Good antique condition overall with age-related wear consistent with use and age. There is a small hairline crack visible to the upper interior rim and a small nibble/chip to the top edge of the lid, along with minor staining and rubbing to the glaze and gilt trim, as shown in the photographs. Structurally sound and displays beautifully.
