A superb antique Clark’s “Anchor” Soft Embroidery display cabinet, with its original tiered concertina form and a wonderful selection of vintage Anchor tapestry wools arranged by colour.

This is a beautiful surviving shop counter display piece, made for Clark’s Anchor Soft Embroidery threads. The wooden cabinet is branded to the inside lid with the Clark’s name, anchor trademark and “Soft Embroidery / Fast Colors” wording, with further “Anchor” and “Soft Embroidery” lettering to the front tiers.

The cabinet opens out into a tiered display, allowing the colours to be viewed across the compartments. It is a particularly decorative piece, with a strong haberdashery and textile history appeal, but also a very practical display cabinet for a collector, studio, sewing room or period shop display.

The original metal side mechanism is present and working. The cabinet closes down into a neat rectangular case, with the branding still visible to the front and lid.

A rare and highly decorative piece for collectors of antique haberdashery, embroidery, sewing, shop fittings, textile history or vintage display cabinets.

Condition

Good antique condition with age-related wear, marks, surface scratches and patina throughout. The wooden case has wear consistent with age and use, including some knocks, rubbing and darker marks to the finish. The metal side supports show age-related tarnish and wear. The lettering remains attractive and clearly visible. The cabinet opens and closes, although care should be taken when handling due to age. The embroidery wools are included as shown and are vintage, so they may show age, wear, fading, missing labels or storage marks.
