A charming and decorative sewing box dating to around 1840, this elegant piece is crafted from papier mâché with richly detailed hand painting, inlaid mother-of-pearl and fine gilt detailing, typical of early Victorian taste. The hinged lid opens to reveal a lidded, compartmentalised tray lined in decorative paper, soft pink silk and velvet. Six original mother-of-pearl-topped thread reels nestle in their original compartments—an especially rare survival that adds both authenticity and display appeal.

A delicate and highly collectable piece for any lover of antique sewing items, decorative boxes, or Victoriana.
