Antique Victorian Caledonia Tartan Ware Needle Case
A lovely Victorian Scottish Tartan Ware needle case decorated in the colourful Caledonia tartan.
Made from turned wood, the slender cylindrical case is covered with printed tartan decoration beneath a glossy varnished finish. The upper section is clearly titled “Caledonia” in gilt lettering.
The case separates into two sections to reveal the original plain wooden inner tube, designed for storing sewing needles. Its simple elongated form makes it a particularly attractive example of the small practical sewing accessories produced in Scottish Tartan Ware during the second half of the 19th century.
The tartan retains strong reds, greens and dark blue-black tones, and the gilt Caledonia lettering remains especially clear.
A very appealing piece for a collection of antique sewing notions, Scottish treen or Tartan Ware.
