Dewhurst’s Sylko Ceramic Cotton Reel Pot

A striking large ceramic Dewhurst’s Sylko “Three Shells” Machine Twist display pot, modelled in the form of an oversized cotton reel.

Finished in cream and deep green/black glaze, the pot has a printed Dewhurst’s Sylko Three Shells label to the lid and opens to reveal a removable white ceramic inner liner. It is a wonderfully decorative piece, combining haberdashery interest with strong mid-century design appeal.

A particularly appealing feature is the full “Selected for the Design Centre London” label to the base. This helps place the piece within the mid-century Design Centre / Design Council period, most likely circa 1960s–1970s, and makes it a more desirable version for collectors of British design as well as Sylko, Dewhurst’s, sewing and advertising wares.
