Early Painted Fairground Crocodile Seat Folk Art c.1900-1930

A rare and characterful early 20th-century fairground crocodile rocker, constructed from carved and shaped wood with original hand-painted decoration. Produced for children’s rides at travelling fairs or amusements, the piece shows wonderful naïve artistry with expressive eyes, spotted body and an open-mouthed grin. The softly curved saddle seat and original metal base survive with attractive surface patina. Timeworn paint, cracks and wear speak to its genuine working life and give the piece strong folk-art presence. A striking object for collectors of fairground antiques or as an interior statement piece.
