Edwardian Cherry Blossom Boot Polish Advertising Housebox c.1910

A wonderful Edwardian wooden advertising housebox for Cherry Blossom Boot Polish, dating to the early 20th century.

Made from solid wood with a lovely warm patina, this traditional tapered housebox features black stencilled lettering advertising Cherry Blossom Boot Polish and the Chiswick Soap Co. The corners are reinforced with black iron plates, while an iron swing handle completes its practical design.

Cherry Blossom Boot Polish was developed by brothers Dan and Charles Mason, who established the Chiswick Soap Company in West London around 1878. Although the brand is generally recorded as launching in 1906, surviving advertisements show Cherry Blossom polish was being marketed as early as 1903. In 1913, the business became the Chiswick Polish Company, making the original Chiswick Soap Co lettering on this housebox particularly interesting.

Originally intended for practical household use, this attractive housebox is a lovely surviving piece of British advertising history and would make a wonderful addition to a collection of antique advertising, country house antiques or traditional domestic wares.
