A striking original Boar’s Head Tobacco enamel advertising sign, featuring the instantly recognisable boar’s head trademark against a vivid yellow ground with large blue lettering.

This is a particularly impressive large-format example, measuring approximately 91.5 cm wide, with wonderful colour and graphic impact. The lower edge is faintly marked Burton, Palmers Green, the manufacturer associated with other surviving examples of this design.

The central circular trademark depicts the snarling boar amongst grasses, surrounded by the words “Trade Mark”, with bold “BOAR’S HEAD TOBACCO” lettering filling the remainder of the sign.

A superb piece of early advertising with enormous decorative appeal, particularly suited to a kitchen, bar, shop interior, café or collection of vintage advertising and enamel signs.

Size/Dimensions

H: 61 cm x L: 91.5 cm
Condition

In authentically aged condition with substantial wear consistent with many years of outdoor or commercial use. There are numerous areas of enamel loss, surface rust and corrosion, particularly around the edges, together with several areas where the metal itself has deteriorated. There are further scattered chips, marks and losses across the face, including to the lettering and central image.

Despite the wear, the colours remain exceptionally vibrant and the principal design remains clear and highly decorative. We have not identified any restoration. Please study the photographs carefully as they form an important part of the condition description.
Era

Early 20th century, likely circa 1920s–1930s
