An unusual antique strawberry emery, closely hand worked in rich red thread with small cream-coloured stitches representing the seeds.
Long green thread leaves fall from the crown of the fruit, while a twisted green stalk forms a distinctive loop at the top. The dense hand-worked surface and slight irregularities in its shape give the strawberry plenty of individual character. When gently squeezed, the filling produces a granular crunch consistent with an emery filling. Emery cushions were traditionally used by needleworkers to clean and sharpen their sewing needles.
A charming addition to a collection of antique sewing accessories, strawberry emeries, needlework tools or textile folk art.

Condition
Good antique condition with age-related wear, minor fading and occasional loose surface fibres. Some of the pale seed stitches show wear or losses, and the green threadwork has minor handling wear and discolouration. There are occasional projecting threads. The strawberry remains firm and intact and gives a granular crunch when gently squeezed, consistent with an emery filling. Please study the photographs carefully as they form an important part of the condition description.
