Antique Ironstone Margarine Slab – Berry & Warmington Liverpool c.1920s
A superb antique ironstone margarine slab, boldly printed with the word MARGARINE in black transfer across the front edge and with a central stamp reading Berry & Warmington Ltd, Weighwell Service, Liverpool.
Produced between the 1920s and early 1930s, these heavy ironstone slabs were supplied to grocers and dairies for the display and serving of margarine and butter. The “Limited” mark places this example firmly after the firm’s incorporation in 1921, making it a fine interwar advertising piece.
Highly sought after today, these slabs are prized by collectors of British advertising ceramics and by decorators for their strong visual appeal. With its clean typography and bold presence, this example makes a striking kitchen display, shop prop or collector’s centrepiece.
