A wonderfully characterful vintage Googly composition girl doll, dating to approximately the 1930s.
She has a composition body with jointed arms, moulded and painted white socks and black Mary Jane shoes. Her particularly appealing face has large hand-painted side-glancing eyes with long black lashes, finely painted brows, rosy cheeks and a small smiling mouth.
She retains her dark brown wig, styled in soft curls around the face. An impressed mark, appearing to read “PB”, can be seen to the back of the body.
She is dressed in a pretty pale yellow dress with a net overlay, lace edging and blue and pink decorative trim at the waist, finished with a large matching yellow hair bow. The dress appears to be a later addition rather than original to the doll.
A very appealing display doll with a wonderfully expressive 1930s face.
Size/Dimensions
Height approximately 35 cm.
Condition
In good vintage display condition with wear consistent with age and use. The composition body has scattered surface marks, scratches and rubbing, together with areas of old glue/adhesive residue, particularly around the lower torso, seat and backs of the legs. There is some chipping and wear to the painted black shoes, especially around the toes, edges and soles. The facial paint remains attractive and well defined, with only light age-related surface wear. The wig is a little thin and untidy in places, particularly towards the back. The later yellow dress has some light wear and marks.
Era
1930s, possibly early 1940s.
