Vintage Clark’s Anchor Embroidery Thread Colour Shade Card c.1954

A lovely original vintage Clark’s Anchor embroidery thread colour card, produced by Clark & Co. of Anchor Mills, Paisley, Scotland.

The folding card contains twelve numbered colour columns displaying a large range of genuine embroidery thread samples, arranged from soft pinks and reds through purples, blues, greens, yellows, browns and neutrals. The reverse includes a numerical shade index, allowing the individual Anchor shade numbers to be cross-referenced with their position on the colour chart.

The buff-coloured cover features the classic Clark’s Anchor branding and anchor trademark, with “Embroidery – Fast Colours” to the front. The reverse is marked “Colour Card No. 101m”, “Made in Great Britain” and “54”, dating this example to 1954.

A particularly attractive piece of mid-century haberdashery ephemera and a useful reference item for collectors of vintage sewing threads, embroidery materials and Clark’s Anchor advertising.
