Vintage Dewhurst’s Sylko 36 Wooden Cotton Reels in Advertising Box

A wonderful vintage Dewhurst’s Sylko collection comprising 36 wooden cotton reels presented in their original illustrated advertising box.

The lid has a particularly striking period design featuring the famous “Sew it with Sylko” slogan, the Dewhurst’s Three Shells emblem and a brightly coloured Sylko reel, together with the wording “Over 350 Fast Colours”.

Inside is a full arrangement of 36 wooden reels in a lovely assortment of colours. The reel labels record the individual Sylko shade numbers and names, including colours such as Kingfisher, Mahogany, Black, Light Lilac, Peach Rose, Royal Blue, Nutmeg, Elephant, Fiesta Pink, Emerald, Bright Blue, Satin Skin, Sandalwood, Dark Claret, Rose, Cambridge Blue, Saffron, Ivory, Crimson, Light Pink, Ivy Green, Silver Slate, Old Gold, Cream, Dark Shrimp, Pale Rose, Coral, Lemon, Linen, Camellia, Mid Crimson and Myrtle.

The box is marked Art. No. E.001 and was produced for 36 reels of Sylko Machine Twist No. 40, each containing 100 yards / 91 metres. It is also marked “A Product of English Sewing Cotton Co Ltd” and “Made in Great Britain”.

An especially attractive piece of vintage haberdashery which displays beautifully with the lid raised. It would make a lovely addition to a Sylko or sewing collection, haberdashery display or period shop setting.
