A wonderful boxed collection of vintage Dewhurst’s Sylko Perlé No. 8 mercerised cotton thread, comprising ten full balls in vivid red and green.

Each ball retains its original dark blue and gold Dewhurst’s Sylko Perlé paper label and contains 10 grammes / approximately 100 yards of mercerised cotton thread. Five balls are green and five are red, making this an especially striking group for display as well as a useful collection of vintage embroidery cotton.

The threads are housed in an original Dewhurst’s Sylko Perlé retail box with its inner tissue paper. The printed box is marked “Fast Colour”, No. 8 and Article No. F602, and states “10 Balls Each 10 Grammes – Made in Great Britain”.

The box carries a shade number 773 marking; as the contents are mixed red (773) and green (778), we are selling this as a boxed collection rather than suggesting that the threads are the original factory contents of this particular shade box.

A lovely survivor from a traditional British haberdashery, ideal for a Sylko collector, vintage sewing display, period prop or for anyone who enjoys using original vintage threads.

Condition

The ten balls of cotton appear full and unused, with their original paper labels present. The colours remain wonderfully strong and bright. The original box and tissue are also present. The box shows expected age-related storage wear, including some creasing, rubbing and wear to the corners and edges, together with old handwritten marks to the exterior.
