A lovely group of vintage silk floss spools, including Pearsall’s Stout Floss, used by traditional fly tiers, and Artserica Floss, used for dressmaking, costume work and decorative textile projects.
Pearsall’s silks are highly regarded by traditional fly tiers and are closely associated with classic wet flies, spiders and traditional trout patterns. Stout Floss was used for bodies, tags, ribs and other dressing details, giving a rich silk finish that modern synthetic threads do not quite replicate.
The Artserica Floss reels add further textile interest, particularly for dressmakers, costume makers, embroiderers and collectors of vintage sewing materials. Silk floss of this type was valued for decorative stitching, trimming, repair work and period textile projects, with a soft sheen and rich colour suited to display or specialist use.
This group includes several attractive shades, including yellows, orange, green, red and lilac tones, with original labels to some of the spool ends. A useful and collectable lot for traditional fly tying, vintage angling, costume work, textile display, embroidery or silk thread collecting.
