Vintage Spastics Society Charity Bell – “Time to Help Spastics”

A striking vintage brass hand bell with turned wooden handle, engraved “From the Spastics Society with appreciative thanks” and “Time to Help Spastics”.

The bell was most likely produced as a presentation or fundraising-related item for The Spastics Society, now known as Scope. The wording reflects the language used by the organisation at the time and is now considered outdated and offensive; however, it forms part of the object’s historical context and makes this an interesting piece of mid-century charity and disability social history.

The bell has a warm aged brass finish, with a shaped wooden handle and internal clapper. A distinctive and unusual collectable, suitable for a social history collection, charity memorabilia display, brassware collection or period prop.
