WW1 Bedfordshire Regiment Sweetheart Pincushion Beaded Heart Patriotic Textile
A superb WW1 sweetheart pincushion for the Bedfordshire Regiment, crafted in the classic stuffed heart shape and richly decorated with beads, metallic thread and printed panels. These sentimental cushions were made by or for serving soldiers during the First World War and were sent home as tokens of affection, remembrance and safe return.
This example features a soft green silky ground with patchwork panels edged in tiny white, coral, glass turquoise and green beads. Radiating sunburst motifs in metallic thread surround the central printed badge of the Bedfordshire Regiment. Additional decorative panels include floral motifs and a raised metallic pink crown emblem and other decorations. The cushion is finished with its original green lace edging and has a plain cream back.
Highly decorative, tactile and full of handmade charm, this is a genuine period sweetheart piece and a lovely addition to any militaria, textile or antique sewing collection.
